The Math books on this website are designed to allow kids (or adults) to learn by themselves. Unlike school math books, such as the Harcourt math books or Saxon math books, the books I wrote are math books for kids, not for teachers or for “school”. Standard elementary, middle school, or even high school, math books are designed to provide support for the teacher. Therefore, they are not children’s math books, but math books for kids to take to and from school, and do their math homework from, but not learn from!
I wrote books that are for kids. Only and purely so. Not for their teachers, although, math teachers could use them wonderfully well - much better than the common McGraw, Harcourt, or Saxon math books they are using now. Learning By Yourself math books cover 1st, 2st, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, and some of 8th grade, but the Word Problems book is for all ages, including high school and college math. If you or your child are older (than middle school) but need helpe with subjects covered in the math books here, use them.
The math books are topic based, not class based. The reason, discussed in the overview section, is that a topics or math subjects, such as percents, or fractions, should be studied in the right sequence, and not in parallel, and that the best way to learn a subject in math is to learn it from start to finish without interruptions that reduce memory, proficiency, and increase the mental load required.
Math books for kids have to be designed for kids. It means they should not have too much on each page, be written in a simple language, be easy to read and follow, and be complete so the student doesn’t have to guess what else he needs to know, or later find he didn’t learn everything.
Most of all, Math books for kids should be fun!
I will let one of the many satisfied parents attest to that:
You sent me the fractions book and my daughter really likes it because it isn't boring. She will actually do math without me forcing her!!! However, she needs to learn more than fractions so I am wondering if you could send me the place value book that I had purchased as well. I am also interested in buying the rest of your books if they are still for sale. I would love to have the complete collection. (Jessica)
This is the common reaction. Why?
Because of the way I wrote the books - easy, simple, complete. When Math is easy - it is fun!
